I’m amused at myself and how annoyed i get with the news in the mornings. My local news comes on at 5:00 a.m. and repeats the same stories over and over again until 7:00 a.m. I get why they do this, so people getting up at different times can all catch the news. But what makes news. Today, we have a lot of Osama bin Laden stories of course. This makes sense, but it’s already getting old. The other big news in New Hampshire?
It’s the 8 year anniversary of the loss of the Old Man in the Mountains. For those of you NOT from New Hampshire, you’re probably saying “what the hell is that?” I’ll tell you. The Old Man in the Mountain was a granite outcropping, that when viewed from a certain angle, resembled the head of a man. Eight years ago today, the granite outcropping gave way and the Old Man in the Mountain was no more.
It was sad when it happened, it was, after all, a symbol of New Hampshire. It was one of our major icons (which really isn’t saying much for the state of New Hampshire). But it’s gone now, and with the death of bin Laden, and the destruction down in the south from those tornadoes, is the 8th anniversary of a pile of rocks sliding down a mountain really newsworthy? Only in New Hampshire.
Oh and the guy who refused to shave until bin Laden was caught – not really newsworthy either – I’m just sayin’
