Well not broke, broke as in no money left, but I need gas today so I’m going to be a lot “broker” than I am right now.
Gas prices are astronomical. It pains me to sound like my parents, but when I was younger…
Seriously, I can remember, when I was a kid, cutting through the gas station on my way to the convenient store down in Brighton, gas being around $0.50 a gallon. When I started driving, gas was just breaking a dollar a gallon. Now, I’m paying almost $4.00 for a gallon of gas, and my minivan takes a LOT of gas.
I can’t figure out WHY gas is so darn expensive. I really can’t. It seems to me that the petroleum companies are making a
tidy massive profit. I’m not against free enterprise. I like money, I want money, I can understand why these companies want money. But do they really need THAT much money? I’m going to guess no.
What’s going to happen when we can’t afford to drive any more. Where will they get their money then? It seems to me that it would make more sense for them to take a small hit now and reduce their profit so we can keep BUYING gas, because pretty soon, nobody is going to be buying much of anything. But that’s just my thought.
And then there is a selfish part. I’m thinking about getting a newer vehicle and passing Spike the minivan down to the wonder twins. Yes, they start drivers ed next month but that’s another story. I wanted to get a smallish SUV? I don’t need a Lincoln Navigator or a Chevy Suburban or anything that ginormous, but I did want something with 4 wheel drive and some cargo/storage for when it comes time to move the wonder twins to their prospective colleges. Yes, it’s almost time for that too, but that also is another story. I was looking at something Ford Explorer sized, but what I’m going to end up with is a freaking Mini Cooper or something equally tiny. Good luck to fitting Twin B into that, lol. But if gas prices continue going in the direction they’ve been headed, it’s not going to happen.
