If I’m being honest, I’m ambivalent about a LOT of things, but at this particular time, I’m ambivalent about the fact that President Obama has decided not to release pictures of a dead Osama bin Laden. Maybe ambivalent isn’t the exact right world I’m looking for. I’m torn I guess.
Part of me is saying “Oh yeah, show those pictures to the world. Let them see what happens to people that mess with us.” And then there is a part of me that is saying “Ew, gross. I have absolutely ZERO need to see the man with his head blown open.” And then another part of me is very glad that the pictures aren’t being shown – not because of the eww factor, but because of a fear of repercussion factor.
Let’s face it, there are a lot of radical, less than stable people already pretty cranky with us as a nation for killing bin Laden. For more on how I’m feeling about that, you can read my post here. I’m very concerned that if we go flashing pictures of him around with his head and body full of bullets that some of our less stable enemies will view that as inflammatory and retaliate. Well I’m already afraid about that, but I’m concerned that this will make them even angrier and more retaliatory than they already are.
I’m not a huge fan of our current president, but I think with this decision, I’m on his side – mostly.
