I’m not a political person – at all. I pay attention to the issues, who’s running, make my choice, do my civic duty and vote. That’s it. I can hold my own in a political discussion, but I won’t. I won’t talk politics with anyone. I don’t care what anybody’s political views are. I really don’t. NOBODY’S political view is wrong. I don’t mean that I think that republicans are right, or democrats are right, or tea party people are right. What I mean is to each individual person, their view is the right view. I get that, I respect that, but the problem is, not many other people get and/or respect that.
I LOVE playing on facebook, but there are so many political posts slamming candidates, issues and parties that it isn’t even funny. Well, some of them ARE funny, and of course there are some that I do agree with, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to like or agree with any of them on a public venue because if you do that, you leave yourself open to bashing by people who disagree with you. I’ve seen it happen, and I’m not willing to subject myself to that.
I really don’t get it, I really don’t. We are a country that was founded on tolerance, well theoretically we were, but we are so NOT a tolerant society. Gay marriage is right, gay marriage is wrong, abortion is right, abortion is wrong. we need more taxes, we
need less taxes, Mitt is the devil, no wait, Obama is. The litany is never ending. Why are we like that? Are we all so certain that our view is the only correct view? I’m not. I’ve made enough mistakes in my lifetime to totally not trust my judgment. I’m willing to listen to opposing views that are shared with me in a nice, polite and courteous way. The question is, are you willing to listen to me in the same manner? Judging from the posts I’ve seen on facebook and the fighting I’ve seen among so-called friends, I’d say the answer is no.
I think that we as a society have a lot of growing up to do.
